Freestylin' Retrospective Book

Growing up riding BMX, Freestylin' magazine was the shit -- very cool, informative, great photos. Every month we couldn't wait to get the new issue in the mail. I just found out that a very limited edition Freestylin' Retrospective Book was recently published and from the sounds of it, it's nearly impossible for us old-school riders to get our hands on a copy. But thanks to the interweb, at least we can see it online. It was also pretty cool to see one of my `zines in the book (page 123).

Like rain on your wedding day*

Jeff:
Do evangelical Christians realize the staggering irony of dismissing Obama's message of "hope" as meaningless and ineffective?

Mighty Snake

Amelia drew a picture and told the story of Mighty Snake. I took her drawing and recorded story, then put it all together in iMovie. You can see the result here...

Last.fm + YouTube Mashup

I've been meaning to check out Last.fm + YouTube = music tv goodness for a while, and it's pretty cool: If you have a Last.fm account, plug it in and watch videos by bands you like. It's like a personalized MTV (back when MTV actually played videos, of course). Here's "my" channel.

Rapha Interviews Brian Chapman

Rapha (a cycling clothing company) interviewed eight of the top custom frame builders in the U.S., including Circle A Cycles (where my brother is a builder).
Custom frame building is both a science and an art. It is an ever-evolving process of geometry, wizardry and psychology, all brought together in an effort to understand the specific wants and needs of an individual rider. Few builders get rich, few even get famous, but every builder holds a special place in the hearts of the cyclists for whom they build. Every frame is a labor of love. At it's best, it's a perfect combination of builder and rider.

Font Conference

I thought this was hilarious. Typeface humor...God, I'm a design nerd.

Rush on The Colbert Report

I don't know how I missed it (or perhaps it's sitting on my TiVo and I don't even know it) but Rush was on The Colbert Report. Thank you YouTube!

End of "The Wire"

I watched the final episode of season 5 of The Wire tonight. I'm not going to add another web page singing the praises of the show (though, clearly, I loved it). Instead, I'm going to complain about my TiVo and/or HBO -- I don't know which exactly is to blame, but the final 5 minutes or so was cut off! I'm gonna have to try to re-record that episode just to it in its entirety and feel the closure I need...
